Team News

Hearts
Aberdeen
  • Steven Naismith made three changes after the Jambos' 4-0 pummelling against Greek outfit PAOK in Thessaloniki, before they lost their last league match 1-0 to Motherwell at Tynecastle prior to the international break.
  • Alex Cochrane is rumoured to be out with an ankle injury, so could miss this match but the extent of the injury is unknown. Peter Haring replaced Toby Sibbick in midfield for the Motherwell match.
  • Alex Lowry and Yutaro Oda started on the left and right flank respectively, as Stephen Kingsley and Kenneth Vargas dropped out. Liam Boyce continued in the starting eleven, supporting the main marksman Lawrence Shankland in attack.
  • Aberdeen boss Barry Robson named two changes after the Dons were defeated by Swedish side BK Hacken at Pittodrie in their Europa League playoff tie, before they lost 2-0 at home to Hibernian in their last Scottish Premiership match.
  • Angus MacDonald entered the Dons defence, as Shayden Morris dropped out of the starting eleven and Nicky Devlin therefore moved out to right wing-back. Connor Barron replaced Leighton Clarkson in the Aberdeen midfield.
  • There was a space amongst the substitutes for Senegalese striker Pape Habib Gueye who has signed from Belgian side KV Kortrijk and made his Dons debut off the bench against the Hibees.

Prediction

  • Two of last season's Scottish Premiership top four meet at Tynecastle, as Hearts host Aberdeen with both teams desperate for all three points so early on in the campaign.
  • The Jambos have lost back-to-back league games after picking up four points from their opening two matches, a victory over St Johnstone in Perth before a stalemate at home to Kilmarnock. Defeat in Dundee followed before Motherwell claimed their first win in Gorgie for nearly four years. Hearts are desperate for a victory but are yet to score a league goal at home so far this season.
  • Aberdeen are one of two teams yet to claim a Scottish Premiership victory so far this season. An opening day draw with Livingston was succeded by a defeat to Celtic at Pittodrie. Their only points so far have come on the road as they claimed a last-gasp point in Paisley. Having lost to the green side of Edinburgh, they'd love their first league win to arrive in the capital this weekend.
  • History of this fixture tells us that the hosts often come out on top, as there have been eighteen winless matches for the away team since Aberdeen last won at Tynecastle in May 2017, so Hearts will hope that's the case once again.
