WhoScored's Premier League Team of the Week: Mbeumo leads XI featuring Fernandes and Martinez
The first weekend of 2025 delivered an exciting slate of Premier League action, and here, we’re looking back out the standout performers.
Represented in our Team of the Week for gameweek 20 are Nottingham Forest, Tottenham, Brentford, Manchester United, Bournemouth, Aston Villa, Manchester City and Fulham.
Matz Sels (Nottingham Forest) - 8.11
Goalkeeper Matz Sels delivered a Player of the Match performance as high-flying Nottingham Forest secured a sixth victory and fourth clean sheet in a row at Wolves on Monday night. The Belgian stopper produced five saves, while he also made three punched clearances and seven ball recoveries, to earn a WhoScored rating of 8.11.
Pedro Porro (Tottenham) - 7.73
A player who performed strongly despite ending up on the losing side over the weekend was Tottenham right-back Pedro Porro, who provided a wonderful assist for Dominic Solanke to open the scoring against Newcastle on Saturday. In all, Porro managed two key passes, five tackles, three clearances and three ball recoveries.
Murillo (Nottingham Forest) - 7.87
After missing the win at Everton through injury, Nottingham Forest centre-back Murillo returned to the side with an impressive showing at Molineux on Monday. The 22-year-old made three tackles, four blocks, eight clearances and two interceptions, all without being dribbled past once, to pick up a WhoScored rating of 7.87.
Lisandro Martinez (Manchester United) - 8.16
Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez could not have chosen a better place to score his first goal for the club than at Anfield against current league leaders Liverpool, and the Argentine did just that on Sunday, thundering home the first of four goals in a thrilling second half on Merseyside. Defensively, Martinez also starred, making three tackles - including one as the last man - as well as four clearances, three interceptions and three ball recoveries, to land a WhoScored rating of 8.16.
Milos Kerkez (Bournemouth) - 8.11
Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez registered his third league assist of the season when the Cherries extended their unbeaten run to eight matches with a 1-0 win over Everton on Saturday. The highly-coveted 21-year-old also managed three key passes, two tackles, three interceptions and six ball recoveries, in another strong all-round showing.
Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford) - 10.0
After becoming the fourth player to register a perfect 10.0 WhoScored rating in the Premier League this season, Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo is our Player of the Week. The 25-year-old continued his exceptional form so far this term with two goals and an assist in the Bees’ 5-0 rout at St Mary’s Stadium - their first league victory away from home in 2024/25. In addition to his contributions in front of goal, Mbeumo also managed five key passes, four shots, three tackles and six duels won.
Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United) - 8.55
Following his red card at Wolves on Boxing Day, Bruno Fernandes made it up to the Manchester United faithful by delivering a Player of the Match performance in Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Anfield. The Portugal international provided the assist for Lisandro Martinez’s opening strike, while he also made four key passes, three successful dribbles, three tackles and eight ball recoveries.
Ross Barkley (Aston Villa) - 8.39
Aston Villa got back to winning ways with a 2-1 home victory over Leicester on Saturday, and it was Ross Barkley who opened the scoring for Unai Emery’s side at Villa Park. Despite making just three league starts this season, Barkley’s strike against the Foxes was his third of the campaign.
Savinho (Manchester City) - 8.36
Manchester City winger Savinho registered his fourth and fifth assists of the season in the Premier League, with both passes finding Erling Haaland against West Ham on Saturday. The 20-year-old also completed two successful dribbles and made three ball recoveries against the Hammers, to return a WhoScored rating of 8.36.
Raul Jimenez (Fulham) - 8.71
Fulham striker Raul Jimenez maintained his 100% penalty conversion rate in the Premier League (10/10) with a brace from the spot against Ipswich on Sunday afternoon, in a game where three of the four goals were scored from 12 yards. The Mexican is now onto 10 goal involvements in the league this season (eight goals, two assists), while Fulham are now eight matches unbeaten in the competition.
Erling Haaland (Manchester City) - 8.50
Rounding off our Team of the Week is Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, who - having struggled to find the net for much of December - made it three goals in his last two matches with a brace against West Ham on Saturday. The Norwegian’s efforts brought him closer to Mohamed Salah in the race for the Premier League’s Golden Boot, with Haaland now two goals behind the Egyptian’s tally of 18.
