A look at our Bundesliga XI for season 2010/11 shows Bayern Munich very much the dominant team, despite finishing third.  A total of 81 goals meant Munich very far and away the top scoring side in Germany’s top division and, with plenty of eye-catching performances throughout the spine of the team, have five players in the team of the season. Champions Dortmund supply a couple of players, as do Mainz 05, with Leverkusen and Frieburg having one apiece. Here’s the stand-out stats from last season’s best eleven:

Oliver Baumann, Frieburg
The 20 year old had his work cut out behind a Frieburg back-four that conceded 51 goals for the season. Baumann made 30 appearances, helping his side to a ninth-place finish and still managed to pick up 8 clean sheets. Frieburg players were awarded our Man of the Match award on 13 occasions and an indication of Baumann’s importance is shown by the fact he picked up 5 of them, on his way to an average rating of 6.97

Phillip Lahm, Bayern Munich
Bayern may have the second-best defence in last season’s Bundesliga but their 40 goals conceded is almost double of the tightest defence, Dortmund, who let in just 22 in comparison. Lahm is one of those rare breeds, though; a player who never seems to have a bad game, and his consistency has shone throughout the season.

The right-back has played in every league game for Bayern, scoring 3 Goals, picking up 2 Assists and has a Pass Accuracy of 88%, higher than any team mate. Further indication of his attacking nature is an average of 0.71 Key Passes per game and at the back, his contribution was 1.8 Tackles, 1.6 Interceptions and 1.3 Clearances per game, as he averaged 6.93 per game.

Anatoliy Tymoscchuk, Bayern Munich
The adaptable Ukrainian has shown his worth to Bayern this season, impressing in both central defence and defensive central midfield. Like Lahm, he also grabbed 3 Goals, and managed 0.4 Shots per game.  Tymoscchuk’s distribution was also impressive, with an 87% Passing Accuracy. He was top for Tackles (3.2) and averaged 1.8 Interceptions and 1.9 Clearances, and picked up 1 Man of the Match award on his way to an average rating of 6.98.

Mats Hummels, Borussia Dortmund
Dortmund have conceded a mere 22 goals this season and Hummels has been a rock at the centre of defence. Winning 64% of Aerial Duels as well as averaging 2.1 Tackles, 2.8 Interceptions and 4.1 Clearances per game, he’s been the most impressive defender in the tightest back-four in top-flight German football. Hummels is also a big threat at the other end of the pitch, too; he averaged 1.1 Shots per game, scoring 5 Goals and picking up 1 Assist as well as 1 Man of the Match award, on his way to averaging 7.00 per game.

Christain Fuchs, Mainz 05
The Austrian left-back was exceptional at the back for Mainz 05, with 3.6 Tackles, 3.5 Interceptions and 2.1 Clearances per game, in addition to winning 67% of Aerial Duels as he helped his side to 8 clean sheets and a fifth-place finish. Fuchs was even more impressive going forward, ending the season with 8 Assists, the top for his club.

With 1.39 Key Passes and 0.75 Shots per game, the Austrian picked up 2 Man of the Match awards on his way to an average 7.12, making Fuchs the top-scoring Bundesliga defender for the season.

Nuri Sahin, Borussia Dortmund
The Dortmund playmaker had an exceptional final season in the Bundesliga before Real Madrid snapped him up this month. His passing ability is summed up by the incredible average of 3.47 Key Passes per game that helped Sahin grab 8 Assists for the champions. He also scored 6 Goals with an average of 1.6 Shots per game and was brilliant defensively, too, with 3.8 Tackles and 2.2 Interceptions per game. Sahin picked up 7 Man of the Match awards, for an average of 7.67 per game.

Arturo Vidal, Bayer Leverkusen
The driving force behind his side’s second-place finish, Vidal’s performances suggest Leverkusen are as close to the proverbial one-man team as the Bundesliga can get. The Chilean  played in five different positions across the season, though defensive midfield is his natural position. Vidal was the team’s top scorer with 10 Goal, averaging 1.2 Shots per game. He was top for Assists, with 11, from an average of 1.94 Key Passes, with 84% Passing Accuracy.

Defensively, he excelled, too, with 4.7 Tackles and 2.8 Interceptions head and shoulders above his team mates. Vidal picked up the most Man of the Match awards (13) in the Bundesliga, for an average of 7.64 per game.

Thomas Müller, Bayern Munich
Muller’s adaptability has allowed him to play in all three attacking midfield positions in Bayern’s 4-2-3-1, even playing up front on occasion. He started in 32 of his side’s league games, making two appearance from the bench and has a hand in 23 of Bayern’s goals, with 12 Goals and 11 Assists. Müller averaged 1.4 Shots and 1.65 Key Passes per game, also making 1.9 Successful Dribbles on average on his way to picking up 1 Man of the Match award for an overall rating of 7.31 per game.

Franck Ribéry, Bayern Munich
The French winger recovered from injury to have a dazzling season in the left attacking midfield position for Bayern, grabbing 7 Goals and 11 Assists from his 22 starts. Ribéry managed 2 Shots and 2.2 Key Passes per game, in addition to a brilliant average of 3.7 Successful Dribbles. He also picked up 3 Man of the Match awards and his average rating of 7.70 is the highest of all players in our XI.

Mario Gomez, Bayern Munich
Backed by the likes of Muller, Ribery and Arjen Robben, Gomez finished top scorer in the Bundesliga, netting 28 of Bayern’s 81 Goals from an average of 2.5 Shots per game. He also grabbed 2 Assists and averaged 0.75 Key Passes and 0.8 Successful Dribbles per game, as he picked up 4 Man of the Match awards and an average rating of 7.42.

Andre Schürrle, Mainz 05
Taking the final place in our XI, Schürrle has netted 15 of his side‘s 52 Goals, as the Mainz 05 forward ended up seventh top Bundesliga scorer for the season. Schürrle averaged 2 Shots per game over the campaign, with 0.88 Key Passes per game producing 4 Assists. He also made an impressive 2.5 Successful Dribbles per game and helped out defensively, too, with an average of 1.6 Tackles. Schürrle picked up 4 Man of the Match awards on his way to an average rating of 7.10.
