WhoScored's European Team of the Week: Salah, Isak, Wirtz and Jesus all star
Liverpool, Arsenal, Bournemouth, Aston Villa and Newcastle are the Premier League representatives in the European Team of the Week. Stars from Mainz, Girona, Bayer Leverkusen and Roma also make the cut.
Robin Zentner (Mainz) – 8.66
10-man Mainz claimed an impressive 3-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, with Robin Zentner solid between the sticks. Indeed, Zentner made seven saves and four high ball claims to land a WhoScored rating of 8.66.
David Lopez (Girona) – 8.78
David Lopez scored his first league goal of the season as Girona returned to winning ways at Real Valladolid’s expense on Friday night. Not only did the experienced centre-back get on the scoresheet, he was solid in possession, too, finding a teammate with 97.6% of his 85 passes to contribute towards a WhoScored rating of 8.78.
Dean Huijsen (Bournemouth) – 8.36
Bournemouth claimed a second successive 3-0 win at Manchester United with Dean Huijsen on hand to open the scoring for the Cherries. The 19-year-old also made six clearances, two tackles and two interceptions in a clean-sheet attaining display.
Dominik Kohr (Mainz) – 8.12
The second Mainz player in the side rounds off the defence. Dominik Kohr was key in their 3-1 win at Eintracht Frankfurt, making a whopping 10 clearances, including one off the line, four interceptions and two tackles on his way to a WhoScored rating of 8.12.
Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) – 9.95
Mohamed Salah made history by becoming the first player in Premier League history to register double figures for both goals and assists before Christmas in Liverpool’s entertaining 6-3 win at Tottenham. Salah was directly involved in four of the Reds’ six goals, netting twice and providing two assists from respective returns of seven shots and three key passes.
Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen) – 10.0
The first of three players to have returned a perfect WhoScored 10 rating at the weekend, Florin Wirtz was directly involved in four of Bayer Leverkusen’s five goals in their resounding 5-1 win over Freiburg. The 21-year-old registered a hat-trick of assists from four key passes and netted with one of three shots. He could have had two goals having seen a first half penalty saved. Six dribbles and two tackles capped a fine showing from the youngster.
Paulo Dybala (Roma) – 9.46
Joining Wirtz in the middle of the park is Roma’s Paulo Dybala, who earned a WhoScored rating of 9.46 in the capital side’s 5-0 win over Parma. The Argentine bagged a brace from five shots and provided one assist from two key passes to make the XI.
Morgan Rogers (Aston Villa) – 9.27
Aston Villa inflicted further misery upon this downtrodden Manchester City side as they earned a 2-1 win over the defending Premier League champions. Morgan Rogers was directly involved in both Villa goals, netting with one of four shots and providing one assist from two key passes. An additional five dribbles saw Rogers earn a WhoScored rating of 9.27.
Gabriel Jesus (Arsenal) – 9.72
Gabriel Jesus added to his three goals against Crystal Palace in midweek with a brace against the Eagles at Selhurst Park on Saturday evening. Jesus struck with two of five shots in the London Derby and won four aerial duels to feature with a WhoScored rating of 9.72.
Patrik Schick (Bayer Leverkusen) – 10.0
Bayer Leverkusen hitman Patrik Schick is the European Player of the Week after a fine showing against Freiburg. The Czech striker netted four of Bayer’s five goals against Freiburg from seven shots, and he worked hard off the ball, too, making two tackles to return a perfect WhoScored 10 rating.
Alexander Isak (Newcastle) – 10.0
Rounding off the European Team of the Week is Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, who also earned a perfect WhoScored 10 rating. Isak bagged a hat-trick as the Magpies smashed Ipswich 4-0 at Portman Road. The Swede hit the back of the net with three of five shots, made two key passes and one successful dribble against the Tractor Boys.
