WhoScored's Premier League Team of the Month: Phil Foden, Alexander Isak, Erling Haaland, Lisandro Martinez
With the Premier League’s January action coming to an end at the weekend, we’re looking back at the standout performers over the course of the month.
Represented in our Team of the Month are Newcastle, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, Manchester United, Manchester City and Newcastle.
Martin Dubravka (Newcastle) - 7.15
Since stepping into the side following Nick Pope’s injury back in December, Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka has kept five clean sheets in eight league matches, and helped the Magpies to three wins from four in January.
Daniel Munoz (Crystal Palace) - 7.36
Crystal Palace’s fortunes started to turn around at the turn of the year, and the Eagles earned seven points from 12 in January. Right wing-back Daniel Munoz makes our XI having provided an assist in the defeat to Brentford at the weekend, while also racking up 16 tackles, seven interceptions and 10 key passes throughout the month.
Dean Huijsen (Bournemouth) - 7.48
Since the injury to Marcos Senesi back November, Bournemouth have embarked on a remarkable 11-game unbeaten run in the Premier League, and that streak coincides with when teenage defender Dean Huijsen was brought into the starting XI. The former Juventus star helped the Cherries to wins over Everton, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest in January, forming an impressive partnership with Ilia Zabarnyi at the back,
Lisandro Martinez (Manchester United) - 7.64
Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez scored his first two goals for the club in the space of just three games in January, firing home a crucial goal at Anfield before finding the net to give the Red Devils all three points at Fulham on Sunday evening.
Milos Kerkez (Bournemouth) - 7.35
The second of four Bournemouth players to make our January XI is left-back Milos Kerkez, who contributed to goals in wins over Everton and Newcastle. The 21-year-old Hungary international also managed seven tackles, five interceptions, three key passes and three successful dribbles, in yet another impressive month.
Phil Foden (Manchester City) - 8.39
With a WhoScored rating of 8.39, Manchester City’s Phil Foden is our Premier League Player of the Month for January. The England international struggled to get going in the first half of the campaign, but looks back to his very best in 2025 so far, with at least one goal in each of his four January outings. Foden scored in the 4-1 win over West Ham at the beginning of the month, before bagging braces at Brentford and Ipswich, and adding the champions’ third goal in Saturday’s win over Chelsea.
Justin Kluivert (Bournemouth) - 8.03
Bournemouth’s Justin Kluivert is another player to have made a lightning fast start to the new calendar year, with five goals across four Premier League matches thus far. The Dutchman scored in the Cherries’ draw at Chelsea two weeks ago, before netting his second hat-trick of the season at Newcastle and then adding a goal in the weekend’s thrashing of Nottingham Forest.
Mateo Kovacic (Manchester City) - 7.69
One of three Manchester City players to make our Team of the Month is midfielder Mateo Kovacic, who both scored and assisted in the 6-0 win over Ipswich a week ago. Across the month, the Croatia international also managed 13 tackles and eight key passes, to earn a WhoScored rating of 7.69.
Antoine Semenyo (Bournemouth) - 7.87
The fourth and final Bournemouth player to make our XI is attacker Antoine Semenyo, who scored or assisted in three of the Cherries’ four league matches in January. The Ghanaian brought his scoring tally to seven with goals against Chelsea and Nottingham Forest, while he also provided an assist in the 4-1 win at Newcastle two weeks ago.
Erling Haaland (Manchester City) - 8.07
After a reasonably quiet December - by his lofty standards - Erling Haaland returned to his prolific goalscoring ways in January, adding four to his tally for the campaign in the wins over West Ham, Ipswich and Chelsea.
Alexander Isak (Newcastle) - 8.11
Haaland’s impressive haul is overshadowed only slightly by Newcastle frontman Alexander Isak, whose remarkable scoring form in December continued into January, with a goal against Tottenham and braces against both Wolves and Southampton. The Sweden international has scored 13 goals in his last 10 league outings and now sits just two goals behind Mohamed Salah in the race for the Golden Boot.
