Man United Transfer Rumours: Paul Pogba backed for sensational Old Trafford return?
Paul Pogba didn’t quite live up to expectations upon his return to Manchester United in 2016. The Frenchman moved to United for a then-record for highest football transfer fee at £89m but struggled to replicate his best Juventus performances back in Manchester.
As such, six years after his move back to United, Pogba left the Premier League to Juventus on a free transfer for the second time in his career. Even so, the 31-year-old struggled back in Turin, with injury restricting the 2018 World Cup to just 108 minutes of game time last season.
September 2023 saw him provisionally suspended from football for failing a drugs test, before he was handed a four-year ban last February, though that was reduced to 18 months in October, which meant he could begin training again this month, and playing again in March. Juventus and Pogba reached a mutual agreement to terminate his contract in November, and with March edging closer, rumours are rife as to where he’ll be plying his trade next.
While a move to MLS and Inter Miami has been mooted, Pogba has since teased a third stint at United on his Instagram. Indeed, Pogba shared a cartoon standing next to Amad with both wearing United kits, before adding a second image of him looking out over Miami with the caption: “Let’s see what’s coming…”
Paul Pogba Next Club Odds
The caption does suggest a move to Inter Miami is likely, and they are the evens favourites to be Pogba’s next club. However, Pogba has since been backed from 40/1 to 10/1 to sign for United. Ruben Amorim’s side are looking to add to the squad in the winter window, with a move for Lecce star Patrick Dorgu seemingly close.
Whether Pogba does return to United, though, remains to be seen. There are a number of areas in need of investment at Old Trafford, but with Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte and Casemiro on the books; there isn’t really space for the midfielder in the squad, unless of course Amorim plans to use the player in a more advanced role.
Brazilian side Corinthians and Super Lig powerhouse Fenerbahce are also at 5/1 to be Pogba’s next club, and a move to the latter would see him link up with Jose Mourinho once more.
