Griezmann back on Manchester United’s radar

Manchester United are weighing up a move for Antoine Griezmann at the end of the season in the wake of Diego Costa’s return to Atletico Madrid, reports ESPN.

Griezmann turned down the chance to join United over the summer after labelling it a ‘dirty move’ in light of FIFA’s decision to ban Atletico from registering new players until January.

The France international signed a bumper new deal as a reward for his loyalty but retained the €100m (£87.8m) release clause, which United were prepared to trigger.

Mourinho is still interested in signing Griezmann and €100m (£87.8m) would prove a snip given the way transfer fees have escalated in recent months.

Diego Simeone has been quick to rubbish suggestions Costa has been signed as Griezmann's replacement, but there is a feeling the latter could be prised away at the end of the season.

While United had a relatively free run at signing the 26-year-old during the summer, that may not be the case at the end of the season when the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid will be assessing their offensive options.

Griezmann has scored two of the three goals scored at Atletico’s new Wanda Metropolitano stadium.
