Aston Villa weigh up second raid of Brentford

Aston Villa manager Dean Smith is keen on signing Brentford left-back Rico Henry this summer, claims The Sun.

Smith would like to sign another left-back before the transfer window closes so he has cover at left-back behind Matt Targett.

Villa have been one of the Premier League's biggest spenders this summer after confirming Emiliano Martinez's arrival from Arsenal on Wednesday in a deal worth as much as £20m.

The Premier League outfit have already signed Ollie Watkins from Brentford in a club-record deal worth in the region of £33m and are now plotting a second raid of the Bees.

Henry has spent the last four years at Brentford and has developed into one of the best full-backs outside the Premier League.

The 23-year-old has also attracted interest from West Ham but Villa believe they would have the edge due to Smith's time as Brentford boss in the past.

Solid yet unspectacular, Henry made 49 appearances for Brentford last season and returned three assists, 1.5 tackles pg, 1.9 aerial duels pg and 0.7 key passes pg.
