Tottenham and Arsenal battling for Nice ace

Tottenham and Arsenal have expressed an interest in Nice central midfielder Jean Michael Seri, reports The Guardian.

Seri has spent the last two years with Nice since joining from Portuguese side Pacos Ferreira in 2015 and has been in sublime form in the club’s surprise title challenge this season.

The Ivory Coast international excelled again at the weekend in Nice’s 3-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain and that has already led to suggestions PSG manager Unai Emery is interested in snapping him out this summer.

However, PSG can expect stiff competition from Arsenal and Tottenham this summer, while Barcelona have also been linked with the 25-year-old who has two years remaining on his existing contract with the Ligue 1 outfit.

Seri is believed to have a €40m (£33.8m) release clause in his Nice contract but Lucien Favre are prepared to accept offers in excess of £20m for his services in the summer.

Only Thiago Motta (91.9) and Marco Verratti (86.4) average more passes per game in Ligue 1 this season than Seri (81.7), while the Nice midfielder has also registered the joint most assists in the French top-flight this term (9 – level with Bernardo Silva).
