Tottenham vs Arsenal XIs: Ozil cut as Gunners make five changes from 5-1 win
Mauricio Pochettino and Unai Emery have shown their hand ahead of today’s North London derby as the Tottenham and Arsenal lineups have been announced.
The good news as far as the hosts are concerned is that Jan Vertonghen has been passed fit to start after a hip injury kept him out of the defeat to Chelsea.
Dele Alli is still sidelined having scored in the reverse fixture between the two sides, while Eric Dier is also ruled out, along with surprise omission Harry Wanks, who is replaced by Victor Wanyama. The Kenyan starts for only the second time in the league all season.
Danny Rose has got the nod at left wing-back, replacing Ben Davies from the 2-0 loss at Stamford Bridge. Rose has been a particularly positive influence on the side in recent times following a return to form after numerous injury problems, with Spurs losing just two of the 13 matches the England international has started in the league compared to six of 15 when he hasn’t.
As far as Arsenal are concerned, there are a number of changes from the 5-1 win over Bournemouth in midweek.
Alexandre Lacazette returns to the starting XI having scored from the bench on Wednesday night, replacing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with Unai Emery unwilling to go with both. Elsewhere Mesut Oil is dropped despite a man of the match rating last time out, with Alex Iwobi coming into the side.
Lucas Torreira also drops to the bench in what looks like a change of system that may see Shkodran Mustafi, start at right-back. Granit Xhaka returns to the team at the Uruguayan’s expense, while both Sead Kolasinac and Carl Jenkinson have been axed, making five changes all in all.
