Lens on way to Sunderland but Lombaerts fails medical

Sunderland are hoping to complete the signing of Jeremain Lens today with the Dutchman flying to the North East for a medical but have had a blow in their attempts to sign Nicolas Lombaerts from Zenit.

Lens looks set to seal a move from Dynamo Kyiv having had a key role in their progression to the quarter-finals of the Europa League last season. The Dutch international had a direct hand in 4 goals for the Ukrainians (3 goals, 1 assist).

Lombaerts, however, will not be making the move to Sunderland after the Belgian failed a medical having agreed personal terms at the club.
