Crystal Palace defender escapes serious knee injury

Mamadou Sakho could yet still play for Crystal Palace again this season after scan results revealed the defender has escaped serious knee ligament damage, reports The Liverpool Echo

The 27-year-old was stretchered off during Palace’s 1-0 defeat to Tottenham on Tuesday night after landing awkwardly on his knee and it was thought the defender had subsequently played his last game for the club.

Sakho joined Palace on loan from Liverpool for the remainder of the season back in January and has been immense for Sam Allardyce’s side since his introduction, but he will remain with the Eagles as he targets a return for their last game of the season away to Manchester United.

Scan results have revealed Sakho has suffered only bruised and strained knee ligaments rather than rupturing his cruciate, which was feared at the time of the injury.
