West Ham boss admits interest in Ligue 1 superstar

West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has revealed he is an admirer of Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi.

The Hammers reportedly had a late bid for Batshuayi rejected in January but they are expected to have plenty of competition if they are to rekindle their interest in the summer.

Bilic, who previously tried to sign the striker when he was at Besiktas, has hailed the 22-year-old as one of the best strikers in Europe.

“Yes, he is a very good player and I have known him for some time, since he played for Belgian club Standard Liege before going to France,” Bilic wrote in his London Evening Standard column.

“We tried to sign him when I was at Besiktas but it was mission impossible at the time, partly because of the transfer fee but also because he wanted to stay closer to England, Germany or Spain.

“He is one of the top strikers in Europe so there will be much interest if he is available. Also we have to asses the situation with our strikers because we have good ones here, some who are playing and others who are injured."

Since the start of the season only PSG striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic (21) has scored more goals than Batshuayi in Ligue 1 (12).
