Hoffenheim set to beat Premier League clubs to Meyer’s signature

Hoffenheim have won the race to sign Schalke midfielder Max Meyer on a free transfer this summer, claims German outlet Sportbuzzer.

Schalke announced at the end of April that Meyer would leave the club when his current deal expires in the summer.

Meyer has previously been linked with a move to the Premier League and it was thought England would be his next destination.

However, it has now emerged that Hoffenheim have pulled off a huge coup and won the race to sign the gifted 22-year-old.

Hoffenheim secured Champions League football for the 2018/19 campaign on Saturday and that appears to have swung a deal to sign Meyer in their favour.

The Bundesliga outfit have already signed Leonardo Bittencourt from Cologne and Ishak Belfodil from Standard Liege in the last week, while also tying down sought-after head coach Julian Nagelsmann on a new three-year deal.

Meyer was one of only eight Bundesliga players that won possession in the middle third at least 100 times this season.
