Manchester United interested in shock move for Premier League defender

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho sent scouts to watch Alfie Mawson in Swansea’s 1-1 draw with West Brom last weekend, claims The Sun.

Mourinho will address his defence for the third summer in a row at the end of the season following Victor Lindelof’s woes this term.

The United manager has already spent more than £60m on two centre-backs during his time at Old Trafford but his defence is still susceptible to mistakes.

Mawson received his first senior England call-up during last month’s international break but failed to get on the pitch against Holland or Italy.

However, Mourinho deployed scouts to watch the 24-year-old during Swansea’s stalemate with bottom side West Brom last weekend.

Only three Swansea players have scored more Premier League goals than Mawson (2) this season and the centre-back is among the club’s top five highest WhoScored rated players (6.83).
