Aston Villa have made their 11th signing of the summer after completing a deal in the region of £2.5m to sign defender Joleon Lescott from Midland rivals West Bromwich Albion.
Tim Sherwood’s side had already had a bid of £1.5m rejected for the England international earlier in the summer, but Lescott has signed a two-year deal after the Villans succeeded with an improved offer in the final days of the transfer window.
Lescott, 33, is the third defender to join Villa this summer following the arrivals of Micah Richards and Jose Angel Crespo and he may not be the last with Sherwood’s side also interested in acquiring the services of Tiago Llori on loan from Liverpool.
The former Manchester City striker enjoyed an impressive debut campaign for West Brom last season but has fallen out of favour with Tony Pulis this time around following the arrival of Jonny Evans from Manchester United.
Since the turn of the year, only five other players have blocked more shots than Lescott in the Premier League (25) and no West Brom teammate has made more interceptions than him (74) in that time.
