Southampton approach Premier League boss to replace Puel
Southampton have approached Hull City manager Marco Silva with a view to replacing Claude Puel at the end of the season, reports The Independent.
Saints will review Puel’s first season at the club at the end of the month and no decision on his future will be taken until then, although it does appear that the Frenchman’s time at Saint Mary's is coming to an end despite the fact he led the club to the EFL Cup final in February.
Southampton are very keen to see progress on the pitch every season and that could prove Puel’s undoing following what has been a thoroughly underwhelming campaign for the south coast club.
As a result, Southampton have made contact with Silva to gauge whether he would be interested in the prospect of replacing Puel in the summer, although they won’t be the only side chasing the highly rated 39-year-old.
Silva was made Mike Phelan’s successor at Hull in January and his reputation has only improved in the five months he has been in England. His current deal is due to expire at the end of the season and he isn’t expected to stay at Hull regardless of whether they are a Premier League club or not next season.
If the league started when Silva was made Hull manager, the Tigers would be in 10th place and only four points behind Arsenal.
