Everton eye deadline day move for Manchester United outcast
Everton are weighing up a deadline day move for Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo, claims The Daily Mail.
The Toffees are looking to get a new centre-back through the door before the transfer window shuts and have already failed with moves for a number of targets.
Everton lost Kurt Zouma and Phil Jagielka at the start of the summer and Marco Silva’s side were unsuccessful in signing the former on a permanent deal from Chelsea.
Silva’s side have also had a loan offer for United defender Chris Smalling knocked back and are now running out of time to bolster their defensive options for the new season.
Despite having seven centre-backs at United following Harry Maguire’s £80m arrival, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer blocked Smalling’s departure.
United are instead listening to offers for Rojo and Everton are contemplating a move to sign the Argentina international before Thursday’s 5pm cut-off point for English clubs.
The 29-year-old has spent the last five years at United but has only ever been a fringe player at Old Trafford.
Rojo, who three years left to run on his current United deal, only made five Premier League appearances last season and Everton would prefer an initial season-long loan deal due to concerns about his injury record.
Rojo has only started 63 of a possible 190 Premier League matches since joining United from Portuguese giants Sporting and the Red Devils have won 57.1% of those matches.
