Leicester seal deal for Wolves defender

Leicester have confirmed the loan signing of Ryan Bennett from Premier League rivals Wolves, with an obligation to buy the centre-back at the end of the season.

The 29-year-old started the season in Wolves' back three but despite injury to Willy Boly he has fallen down the pecking order in recent times and not featured for the club since New Year's Day.

Romain Saiss and Leander Dendoncker have moved back into defence in the meantime, while youngster Max Kilman's emergence, along with the return from injury of Boly, has made Bennett surplus to requirements at Molineux.

His availability attracted interest from a number of club's in both the Premier League and Championship but it's Leicester that have won the race for Bennett's services as they seek to bolster their defensive options.

Many were surprised when the Foxes failed to replace Harry Maguire over the summer and while the pairing of Caglar Soyuncu and Jonny Evans have excelled since, a lack of quality cover has meant neither have been able to have a rest.

Club captain Wes Morgan is now 36, while 22-year-old Filip Benkovic clearly hasn't convinced Brendan Rodgers of his ability since returning from Celtic, despite the coach signing him on loan for the Glasgow outfit in 2018.

Bennett will act as third choice centre-back as a result having amassed plenty of top-flight experience with both Norwich and Wolves, making 109 Premier League appearances. His only Premier League goal for the latter came against Leicester in a 4-3 victory last season.
