Manchester United set to up offer for Morata

Manchester United are prepared to up their offer for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, reports the Guardian.

The Spanish striker, who was on target for Spain in their 2-2 draw with Colombia on Wednesday night, is widely expected to leave the La Liga and European champions this summer and he has no shortage of suitors.

United are in the market for a new frontman this summer and have been linked with Romelu Lukaku and Andrea Belotti, of Everton and Torino respectively.

Lukaku, though, is set to return to Chelsea, while United have been priced out of a move for Belotti, which means Morata is their primary striking target.

However, an initial £52m offer for the 24-year-old has been rejected, yet United are set to return with a £60m bid to convince Real Madrid to sell up.

The Premier League side are confident they can convince the Spanish giants to cash in on the Spain international, but are hopeful of negotiating a smaller fee for Morata, who Real Madrid value closer to the £80m mark.

Despite a lack of regular first team action under Zinedine Zidane last season, Morata still scored 15 league goals for Los Blancos as they wrangled the La Liga title away from rivals Barcelona.
