AC Milan sack Giampaolo and hire Pioli

AC Milan on Tuesday night relieved Marco Giampaolo from his position as head coach.

The Italian powerhouse have made an indifferent start to the campaign and sit tenth in Serie A having earned just three wins from the opening seven games of the season.

A 2-1 win over Genoa may have eased pressure on Giampaolo, but the club elected to use the October international break to sack the 52-year-old.

"AC Milan announces it has relieved Mr. Marco Giampaolo from his position as coach of the First Team," a statement read on the club's official website.

"The Club is grateful to Marco for the work carried out and wishes him all the best to come in his professional career."

Giampaolo was appointed as AC Milan head coach over the summer after a three-year stint as Sampdoria boss.
