Burnley wrap up signing of Championship's top scorer

Burnley have secured their third summer signing with the capture of Matej Vydra from Derby County.

The Czech striker joins Ben Gibson and Joe Hart at Turf Moor, with Vydra putting pen to paper on a three-year deal.

“The Clarets have completed a third signing of the summer transfer window with the capture of striker Matej Vydra from Derby County,” a statement read on the club’s official website.

“The Czech international has signed a three-year-deal, with a further 12-month option, and follows Ben Gibson and Joe Hart in arriving at Turf Moor ahead of Thursday’s deadline.

“Vydra, who joins for an undisclosed fee, gets the chance to return to the Premier League after brief spells in the top tier with Watford and previously at West Bromwich Albion while on loan from Italian Serie A club Udinese in 2012/13.

“And this time the 26-year-old, who has been a prolific scorer at Championship level, feels fully equipped to take on the challenge with the Clarets.”

On his move to Burnley, Vydra said: “I think five years ago I was like a kid in the Premier League. Now I feel I have more experience in English football, I speak better English and I have learned more in England, so I hope I’m a better player than five years ago.

“For the last four years I have been fighting to be in the Premier League.

“I haven’t done it with the teams I was playing for and sometimes it has to be done with a transfer and now I’m so happy.

“My ambition is to play in the best league in the world so thank-you to the gaffer here and to Burnley for giving me a hand to play in the Premier League and now it’s about me to show he chose the right person and hopefully I will be successful with mine and Burnley’s targets.”

Vydra was the top scorer in the Championship last season as he netted 21 goals for Derby.
