Liverpool have confirmed Daniel Sturridge and Alberto Moreno will leave the club this summer.
Sturridge and Moreno have both entered the final month of their respective Liverpool contracts and will not be handed new deals.
There was talk at the beginning of last season of a new deal in the pipeline for Sturridge after his breathtaking goal against former club Chelsea.
The former England international has, however, tumbled down the pecking order at Liverpool since Jurgen Klopp’s arrival in October 2015.
Sturridge, who was sent out on loan for the second half of the 2017/18 campaign, has also struggled with a number of muscle injuries in recent years.
Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move for RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner and have now decided to let Sturridge go.
The 29-year-old is not the only first-teamer Liverpool will release this summer, with Moreno also leaving.
“Liverpool Football Club has today thanked Daniel Sturridge and Alberto Moreno for their outstanding contributions to the club and wishes them all the very best for the future,” a statement read on the club’s official website.
“The pair are set to leave the Reds this summer upon the expiry of their current contracts.”
Moreno has dropped completely out of favour under Klopp, with James Milner even preferred at left-back over the Spaniard when required.
Moreno only made two Premier League appearances last season and has been linked with a return to Sevilla.
