Liverpool step up interest in Arsenal midfielder

Liverpool have stepped up their interest in Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after making a direct enquiry to their Premier League rivals, reports The Daily Mirror.

Oxlade-Chamberlain will only have 12 months remaining on his existing Arsenal deal next month and the England international is reportedly growing frustrated by a lack of progress on the club’s part of offering him an extension.

Jurgen Klopp has been monitoring Oxlade-Chamberlain’s future since the start of last season and is now ready to step up the club’s interest in the £25m-rated midfielder.

The 23-year-old has struggled to nail down a regular role in the Arsenal first-team since joining from boyhood club Southampton in 2011, and even finished the season ahead of Hector Bellerin at right wing-back.

Arsenal are currently looking to resolve the futures of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, who also only have 12 months left on their current deals, and losing Oxlade-Chamberlain would only add to what has already been a frustrating summer for the Gunners.

Of players that have attempted at least 150 dribbles in the last four Premier League campaigns, only three players require minutes per successful dribble than Oxlade-Chamberlain (1 every 22.4 minutes of action).
