Manchester City to sign Brazilian teenager for £10.7m
Manchester City have agreed a deal with Brazilian side Vasco da Gama for the signature of highly-rated midfielder Douglas Luiz for £10.7m, reports The Daily Telegraph.
Luiz, 19, has enjoyed a promising breakthrough campaign for the Brazilian club this season but is now on the verge of making a high-profile move to City.
The Brazil U20 international is expected to be loaned out rather than link up with Pep Guardiola’s main squad, and could even join Girona, who City are on the verge of acquiring a near 50 per cent stake in.
Guardiola’s side are also due to farm Jason Denayer to the Spanish side after blocking his move to Lyon this summer, which raises questions about whether clubs should be financially invested in other teams around the world.
Luiz, who has started 11 of Vasco da Gama’s 12 league games this season, is a defensive midfielder by trade but can also play further up field behind the striker.
In fact, no player aged 21 or under has attempted more shots in the Brasileirao this season than Luiz (31), nor have they made they more key passes than the teenager (15).
