Everton have announced midfielder Muhamed Besic has put pen to paper on a new five-and-a-half-year deal keeping him at the club until June 2021.
Besic, 23, still had three years left to run on the original deal he signed when he joined from Hungarian side Ferencvaros in July 2014.
Despite struggling to remain fit, the Bosnia international has already endeared himself to the Goodison Park faithful and Everton have moved to secure his long-term future, which Besic is delighted at.
“I’m really happy to have signed a new contract with a club such as Everton,” Besic told EvertonTV. “After a year and a half with the club, it makes me proud that they have given me a new deal.
“When I first arrived here it was difficult for me, but now I feel at home. The supporters, as well as the manager, the staff and my teammates, have all made me welcome at the club and I feel really happy.
“It was very easy when I heard about it. It was clear that wanted to stay and sign the new contract.”
Of players to have made at least 25 appearances in the Premier League since the start of last season, only Lucas (16.8 mins) and N’Golo Kante (19.1 mins) require fewer minutes per successful tackle than Besic (21.3 mins).
