Real Madrid midfielder rejects new contract

Isco rejected a contract extension offer from Real Madrid in December and could leave the club at the end of the season, according to Spanish radio station La Sexta, via AS.

The 24-year-old has entered the final 18 months of his current deal with Madrid and has been heavily linked with a move away from the club since the end of last season.

Isco has failed to establish himself as a first-team regular under Zinedine Zidane and is now looking to move on at the end of the season after rejecting Madrid’s attempts to secure his long-term future.

The Spain international has the ability to play in the midfield three as well as the wide areas in attack but is well down in the pecking order for both areas of the pitch and is now determined to find regular playing time elsewhere.

Isco has only started nine league games for Madrid this season, making a further six appearances from the bench, but his record as a starter is exemplary. In fact, only five Madrid players have a higher WhoScored rating in the league than Isco (7.59), who has played a direct hand in seven goals from his nine starts.
