Newcastle set to beat West Ham to Leicester’s club-record signing

Newcastle are on the verge of landing Leicester outcast Islam Slimani on loan for the remainder of the season, reports Sky Sports.

The Magpies are set to fend off competition from West Ham to land the Algeria international despite the fact he suffered a thigh injury in training earlier this week.

Slimani will now be sidelined for up to two weeks but Rafa Benitez is still happy to press ahead with a deal for the 29-year-old as the Newcastle manager desperately scrambles for new signings.

Newcastle have only managed to sign Kenedy on loan from Chelsea this month and have moved for Slimani after missing out on Daniel Sturridge’s signature to West Brom.

Leicester have already offloaded Leonardo Ulloa back to Brighton on loan and are now on the cusp of shifting Slimani, whom they signed from Sporting for a club-record £30m in 2016.

The 29-year-old has failed to make any impact at Leicester since his arrival, netting just eight league goals in 35 appearances.

However, now is a good time to invest in the striker on Football INDEX. He will get regular playing time at St. James’ Park and his share price is only £0.91 at the moment.
