Atalanta want to make Gomez best paid player in club's history

Atalanta have moved to end questions about Alejandro Gomez’s future by offering their star man a new four-year deal that would make him the best paid player in the club’s history, reports Sky Italia, via Football Italia.

Gomez has been heavily linked with a move to Lazio and AC Milan this summer after enjoying a scintillating season for Atalanta last term but there is still hope for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side after neither of their rivals have managed to close a deal.

Atalanta are fighting to keep hold of Andre Conti, who wants to join Milan and want to prevent a mass exodus from the club this summer having already lost Franck Kessie to the Rossoneri.

Gomez still has three years remaining on his existing Atalanta deal but he will be 30 at the start of next year and time is running out if he wants to play for one of the biggest clubs in Italy.

The 29-year-old has even received international recognition with Argentina for the first time in his career off the back of last season where he was one of eight players to record double figures for goals (16) and assists (10) in Europe’s top five leagues.

Furthermore, only Edin Dzeko (11) won more WhoScored Man of the Match awards in Serie A last season than Gomez (10).
