Manchester United target flattered by interest from Jose Mourinho’s side
Aaron Martin has conceded he is flattered by reported interest from Manchester United but insists he is only thinking about playing for Espanyol.
United have been touted with a move for the 20-year-old left-back as Jose Mourinho looks to finally address a position that has proved problematic over the last two seasons.
With Luke Shaw almost certainly set to leave at the end of the season and Ashley Young entering the twilight of his career, a new left-back will be required in the summer.
Martin has been earmarked as a possible signing by the Red Devils, but the Spain U21 international insists is not thinking about leaving Espanyol.
“It’s a pleasure that other teams follow you, but I only think of Espanyol; I’m very happy to be here,” he told the club’s official website.
“I’ve been playing for a year in the first division, I feel very comfortable with my teammates and they help me a lot like the coach and that makes me feel better.
“I focus on playing every week, helping the teammates and doing a good role. I work every day to be able to play every weekend.”
The young defender has established himself as a first team regular for Espanyol since breaking into the first-team last season. He has started 40 of their 50 league matches in that period, while only Dani Ceballos (99) has made more tackles than Martin (89) of players aged 21 and under.
