Juventus midfielder open to Bundesliga return

Sami Khedira has refused to rule out returning to the Bundesliga before retirement.

The Germany international has spent the last three years at Juventus but the Old Lady are now starting to sound out his long-term replacement.

Khedira’s current Juventus contract is due to expire at the end of next season and the Serie A giants are widely expected to sign Liverpool midfielder Emre Can this summer.

The 30-year-old hasn’t played club football in Germany since leaving Stuttgart for Real Madrid in 2010 but hasn’t ruled out a return, although would prefer a new challenge entirely.

“You can never rule anything out in football,” he told Sport-Informations-Dienst, via Football Italia.

“The Bundesliga is a great league, even if some of its clubs are in trouble at the moment. It’s an attractive competition.

“I’ve had some good experiences abroad, I like new challenges, things that I haven’t experienced yet, sampling a new mentality, a new city, a new country.

“I don't feel old yet, but I won’t rule out returning to the Bundesliga.”

Khedira has scored six goals in 18 league appearances for Juventus this season, already more than he managed in either of his first two campaigns at the club.
