West Ham forward Manuel Lanzini has been named in Argentina’s 18-man squad for the Rio 2016 Olympics.
Argentina’s participation at the Olympics had been cast into doubt and Uruguay were on standby to replace their South American rivals.
However, the Argentina Football Association has announced their squad, which includes West Ham’s Lanzini and will mean he will miss the first half of the upcoming Premier League season.
The Olympic football is will run for nearly three weeks from the start of August and finish on the 20th, depending on how far Argentina go in the tournament. Should they go all the way, it would mean Lanzini would miss their opening two fixtures of the season at the very least.
Only Dimitri Payet (67) completed more dribbles for West Ham in the Premier League last season than Lanzini (57).
