Two Madrid stars hand in transfer requests

Real Madrid stars Sergio Ramos and Cristiano Ronaldo have handed in transfer requests, according to El Chiringuito, via Sport.

The Los Blancos duo reportedly met with club president Florentino Perez after their 1-0 defeat to city rivals Atletico Madrid to secure their exit from the club at the end of the season.

Ramos was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United last summer before eventually signing a new five-year deal, whereas Ronaldo, 31, is widely expected to leave the Spanish giants at the end of the season anyway.

The three-time World Player of the Year hit the headlines after suggesting the rest of his Madrid teammates were not at his level after their defeat to Atletico at the weekend, although he has since addressed those comments.

Both Ronaldo and Ramos have endured frustrating campaigns for Madrid thus far, which is typical of their disappointing season. Despite the fact only Luis Suarez (25) has scored more league goals than Ronaldo (22) in La Liga this season, none of those goals have come in matches against Sevilla, Barcelona, Atletico or Valencia, which supports suggestions he hasn’t been effective in big games.

Meanwhile, it is interesting to take note that Madrid are unbeaten in the 10 league games that Ramos has not started in this season, winning eight of those.
