Spanish giants confirm interest in Manchester City outcast
Sevilla have confirmed they are interested in re-signing Jesus Navas from Manchester City when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Navas, 31, has spent the last four years with City after making the emotional decision to leave boyhood club Sevilla in 2013 but a new deal isn’t on the cards from manager Pep Guardiola.
The Spain international has underwhelmed during his time at City and will be free to join other clubs on a free transfer at the end of the season, with Sevilla among the sides interested in the speedy winger.
“Jesus Navas could be one of the players the club work on. He’s out of contract [in the summer] and has given his life to this club,” ESPN quote Sevilla president Jose Castro as saying.
“We’re working on many players and of course he could be an option, but I don’t want to divert attention away from the present. Right now we have to back the squad we have, which is getting good results.
“The is the squad that has to hit the target we’ve set out, which is to be in the Champions League.”
Navas reportedly has no intention of staying in England; having suffered from severe homesickness around the time he initially joined City, and has put a return to Spain at the top of his summer wish list.
The former Sevilla winger hasn’t scored in the Premier League since January 2014 (vs Cardiff).
