Championship pair mulling over Lampard deal

Newcastle and Brighton and considering offering Frank Lampard a one-year deal should the secure promotion to the Premier League, reports the Sunday Express.

Newcastle lead the way in the second tier of English football and could extend their lead at the top to five points with a win over Leeds on Sunday.

Brighton occupy the other automatic promotion spot with a four-point gap between themselves third-placed Reading.

The duo would thrive with a player of Lampard’s top-flight experience in the ranks, even though he will be 39 by the time the new season starts.

The former England international is currently a free agent after his contract at New York City FC expired with he now free to talk to teams over any possible deal.

Lampard and Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez worked together during their time at Chelsea with the Magpies boss still a huge admirer of the midfielder.
