Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed Laurent Koscielny will undergo a scan later on Friday to find out the extent of the muscle injury he picked up in Arsenal’s 5-1 defeat to Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.
Koscielny, 31, was forced off during the demolition defeat just after the break with the score at 1-1 before watching his teammates capitulate in his absence during a devastating second half collapse.
The France international is expected to miss Monday’s FA Cup fifth round clash away to Sutton United and could be set for a spell on the sidelines if scan results return with bad news, which would only add insult to injury to what has been a bad few weeks for Arsenal.
“We looked quite defensively solid in the first half and lost Koscielny in the second,” the London Evening Standard quote Wenger as saying. “After that we lost a bit of our structure and our organisation. At 3-1 I felt we were mentally affected and looked much more vulnerable.”
Koscielny has established himself as one of the best centre backs in the Premier League in recent seasons and his absence would be a huge blow particularly in the way Gabriel filled in for him after coming on against Bayern.
In fact, in the last five Premier League campaigns only Ashley Williams (428) has completed more interceptions than Koscielny (418).
