Crystal Palace land Ayew from Championship side Swansea
Crystal Palace have made a breakthrough in talks with Swansea for Jordan Ayew and announced the forward on a season-long loan deal.
The Eagles have been locked in negotiations with their former Premier League rivals for the last few weeks and have finally brokered a deal for a season-long loan.
Swansea were hoping to receive Jairo Riedewald from Palace in return but the versatile defender turned down a move to the Championship.
Ayew was a revelation for Swansea last season and it’s a surprise Palace didn’t face competition for his signature.
“I am very pleased to be here,” Ayew told the club’s official website. “It’s been a long transfer window but finally I got a move. The important thing for me now is to get fit and to be in good shape, and I know the manager wants to use my up front and make things happen.
“The manager, chairman and sporting director all made an effort for me to be here today, so I have to thank them. I am looking forward to playing with the boys and meet the fans, and hopefully it’ll be a good season.
“I chose to come to Palace to continue improving. It’s a step up for me and I’m ready for the challenge to get to where I think I can get to.”
Palace had Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek on loan last term and Ayew has now replaced the England international, while also bolstering their options up front.
Ayew marks the fourth signing Palace have made this summer and concludes their business until the transfer window re-opens in January.
The 26-year-old scored seven goals and provided two assists for a Swansea side that were relegated last term, while also picking up the WhoScored Man of the Match award on six occasions.
