Chelsea open contract talks with Real Madrid target

Chelsea have opened contract talks with Thibaut Courtois in a bid to quickly defuse speculation of a summer move to Real Madrid, reports The Daily Telegraph.

Madrid are expected to sign one of Courtois or David De Gea, although it is now increasingly looking like the Manchester United goalkeeper.

Antonio Conte’s side have no interest in losing Courtois this summer and are acting quickly to put an end to rumours of a possible exit by handing the Belgium international a bumper new deal.

Courtois’ current £100,000-a-week contract is due to expire in 2019 and Chelsea are keen to reward the 25-year-old for his performances during their title-winning campaign this season.

The Belgian goalkeeper is currently in pole position to win the Golden Glove award for the most clean sheets in the Premier League this season.

Courtois, who has kept 16 clean sheets in 35 league appearances this season, is currently one ahead of Hugo Lloris, but Tottenham have two games remaining compared to Chelsea’s one.
