Liverpool agree world record fee for Roma goalkeeper

Liverpool have agreed a world record £66m fee for Roma goalkeeper Alisson, reports the Liverpool Echo

The Premier League giants have been heavily linked with a move for Alisson in the last 12 months and have stepped up their pursuit since the end of last season.

Jurgen Klopp has made signing a new first choice goalkeeper a priority following Loris Karius’ woes in last season’s Champions League final.

Liverpool had a £60m bid knocked back for Alisson earlier this week but have now made a breakthrough in talks, agreeing to make the Roma ace the most expensive goalkeeper of all-time.

Chelsea and Real Madrid have both been credited with an interest in 25-year-old this summer but both are now set to miss out, with Liverpool free to discuss personal terms with the goalkeeper.

Few problems are now expected in Liverpool’s pursuit and Alisson’s arrival will take Klopp’s spending beyond the £150m mark.

Alisson finished the campaign as the highest WhoScored rated goalkeeper in Europe’s top five leagues last season (6.99).
