Liverpool frontman wants Anfield stay

West Ham target Christian Benteke is adamant he will fight for his Liverpool future and has no interest in leaving in the summer after 12 months at the club.

Brendan Rodgers signed Benteke for £32m from Aston Villa last summer but the Belgium international has dropped down the pecking order under Jurgen Klopp since he was replaced Rodgers in October.

The 25-year-old, who is currently sidelined through injury, has become a forgotten man at Anfield in recent weeks as Liverpool press on towards the Europa League semi-finals and his lack of match action has seen him linked with a move to West Ham.

However, the Liverpool No.9 has refuted claims he will give up on his Liverpool career after 12 months and wants to see out the remaining four years of his current deal at Anfield.

“Obviously it has not been the best season for me here. I haven’t played like I want to and that is frustrating but this is part of football. [But] I never lose my self-confidence,” Benteke told the Liverpool Echo.

“There is no secret. When things aren’t going well you just have to work harder and trust yourself.

“Even though things have not been as I wanted I’m really happy here. Playing for this club is exciting, just like what I thought it would be. Now I want to finish the season well.”

Despite Benteke’s struggles this season, only Roberto Firmino (8) has scored more goals for Liverpool this season than the Belgian (7).
