Torino announce arrival of Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper

Torino have announced the arrival of Salvatore Sirigu on a free transfer after Paris Saint-Germain agreed to terminate his contract early.

The Serie A side have been looking to sign a new goalkeeper this summer after opting against extending Joe Hart’s stay at the club beyond last season following his loan spell from Manchester City.

Sirigu endured two disastrous loan spells away from PSG last season, spending the start of the campaign at Sevilla before moving to Osasuna in 2017 where he was part of their relegated side

The 30-year-old’s PSG contract was due to expire this summer but he had no future at the club and Unai Emery’s side agreed to release him early so Torino could speed up his arrival.

“I am very happy to be part of this club,” Sirigu told Torino’s official website. “I chose Torino because he [the president] wanted me very strongly and because fore years he has been carrying out a concrete project with exponential growth.

“The club and the president have made me feel important and I thank them for that. I am honoured to be part of a club that has a unique history.”

The transfer means that Sirigu returns to club football in Italy for the first time since 2011 when he finished his time with Palermo to move to PSG.

Of goalkeepers that made more than five appearances in Serie A last season, Sirigu had the worst save success rate (50%).
