Atletico Madrid have made Mauricio Pochettino their number one target if Diego Simeone leaves in the summer, reports the Sunday Mirror.
The Tottenham manager has earned countless admirers for his management style and the aggressive nature of his teams’ play since making the move to England.
La Liga giants Atletico have earmarked Pochettino as a possible replacement for Simeone, who has given the team notice that he intends to leave either this summer or next.
However, Real Madrid could also make a move for the 44-year-old, which could spark a tug of war between the two teams.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is aware of interest in the manager and oversaw Pochettino pen a new deal to keep him at White Hart Lane until 2021 back in May.
That, though, didn’t prevent Luka Modric and Gareth Bale leaving Spurs for Real Madrid and he is wary that Pochettino could favour a return to Spain having played and managed in the country with Espanyol.
Interest in Pochettino would only increase further if Spurs overcome Manchester United on Sunday.
