Real Madrid target wants more than £200,000-a-week to stay at Chelsea

Chelsea might be required to hand Thibaut Courtois a new deal worth in excess of £200,000-a-week to keep the goalkeeper out of Real Madrid’s clutches, reports The Daily Mirror.

Courtois, 24, who spent three seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid, has been heavily linked with a move to their city rivals in the past and has re-emerged as one of their top targets this summer as they look to sign a marquee goalkeeper.

Madrid are also believed to have rekindled their interest in Manchester United ace David de Gea, but a move for Courtois is still on the cards even though Chelsea are not interested in selling the Belgium international.

However, Antonio Conte’s side will need to reward their No.1 goalkeeper with a lucrative new deal to end Madrid’s interest, with Courtois’ camp reportedly wanting more than £200,000-a-week to extend beyond his current 2019 expiry date.

Courtois has not have much to do this season behind Chelsea’s formidable defence but has been at his best on the odd occasion when he has been called into action. Unsurprisingly, no goalkeeper has kept more clean sheets in the Premier League this season than Courtois (13).
