Manchester United target offered new deal

Inter have made the first step in trying to secure Milan Skriniar’s long-term future and will sit down with his representatives next month to discuss a new deal, claims Gianluca Di Marzio.

Skriniar has quickly emerged as one of the best young centre-backs in Europe since joining Inter from Sampdoria in the summer of 2017, drawing links to the likes of Manchester United and Barcelona.

United have been heavily linked with a move for the 23-year-old this season as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side desperately look to sign a world class centre-back.

Barcelona have shifted their focus to Ajax wonderkid Matthijs de Ligt, potentially giving United a clear run at Skriniar but Inter are determined to hold on to the Slovakia international.

Skriniar’s current deal is not due to expire until 2022 but Inter have now tabled a new deal with improved terms, which they will discuss with his camp at the start of next month.

Now that Inter have made their move, it will be up to Skriniar whether he wants to prolong his stay or keep his options open and turn down the chance to renew for now.

Of players to have started at least 10 league matches in Serie A this season, only Sassuolo defender Marlon Santos (93.5%) has a better pass success rate than Skriniar (93.1%).
