Crystal Palace sign Spanish goalkeeper

Crystal Palace have announced they have agreed a deal to sign goalkeeper Vicente Guaita when his Getafe contract expires on 1 July.

The Eagles missed out on signing Guaita for a cut-price deal in January but have finally got a deal over the line for the 31-year-old.

Guaita had interest from other clubs but has decided to put pen to paper on a three-year deal until 2021 with Roy Hodgson’s side.

“We’re delighted to sign one of La Liga’s best goalkeepers and pleased that we have beat off the competition for his signature,” Palace chairman Steve Parish told the club’s official website.

“We very much look forward to Vicente joining in pre-season training and helping us push on in the Premier League.”

Palace have struggled to nail down a regular first-team goalkeeper in the last few years after rotating between Wayne Hennessey, Julian Speroni and Steve Mandanda.

Hennessey finished last season as Palace’s No.1, but that is expected to change following news of Guaita’s arrival.

Only Atletico Madrid (22) and Barcelona (29) conceded fewer goals than Getafe (33) in La Liga last season, with the veteran keeping 12 clean sheets in 33 games.

Furthermore, of goalkeepers that made more than 10 appearances in La Liga last season, only two had a better save success than Guaita (77.5%).
