Veteran to take pay-cut to secure Manchester United future
Ashley Young will have to accept a £30,000-a-week pay-cut in order to land a new Manchester United deal, claims The Sun.
The 33-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season but Young are in talks with United over an extension.
Young has established himself as a key player under Jose Mourinho and the United boss is keen to keep the veteran the club.
The England international has successfully adapted from a tricky winger to a solid full-back under Mourinho and spent last season as the club’s first choice left-back.
Antonio Valencia has dropped out of favour under Mourinho this season and Young has proved equally as useful at right-back.
Young current earns £130,000-a-week but will have to accept a significant pay-cut in order to prolong his stay at Old Trafford.
Of outfield players at United, only Paul Pogba (65), Valencia (62) Chris Smalling (51) and Juan Mata (47) have started more Premier League matches than Young (44) under Mourinho.
