Liverpool defender cleared of ACL but faces long time out

Scans have revealed France international Mamadou Sakho has not suffered any damage to the cruciate ligaments in his knee but is still expected to face between six and eight weeks on the sidelines.

Sakho, 25, was forced off during Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat at home to Crystal Palace on Sunday after failing awkwardly and was pictured leaving Anfield on crutches and with a brace around his right leg.

The former Paris Saint-Germain defender will find out the full extent of his injury when he meets further consultants on Tuesday, where it is expected he will be sidelined for up to two months.
