Tanguy Ndombele has given Tottenham a boost in their pursuit of the Lyon midfielder after lavishing praise on Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
Tottenham are locked in talks with Lyon over Ndombele’s transfer and are prepared to pay a club record fee for the France international.
Pochettino has been assured money will be available to spend this summer and last season’s Champions League finalists are willing to spend £60m on Ndombele.
While negotiating a fee with Lyon should prove no problem, it was thought convincing Ndombele to join Tottenham would be the club’s biggest obstacle.
Manchester City are also interested in signing the 22-year-old but Tottenham have been given hope after Ndombele referred to the north London outfit as a ‘big club’.
“Tottenham are a great team, a big club,” he told Telefoot, via the London Evening Standard. “They finished fourth in their league and reached the Champions League final.
“They are a big club and what player would not be interested by a club club? I will concentrate on what I have to do on the pitch, then I’ll go on holiday, rest my head and after that I’ll try to see what I can do.”
Lyon paid just £6m to sign Ndombele on a permanent deal last summer and now they are set to make an enormous profit on the talented midfielder.
Of players that attempted at least 100 dribbles in Ligue 1 since August 2017, Ndombele has the best success rate (75.1%).
