Manchester United announce second signing in as many days
Manchester United have confirmed the arrival of Porto defender Diogo Dalot on a five-year deal, with an option to a further 12 months.
Dalot has been heavily linked with a move to a number of big European clubs this season but Jose Mourinho’s side have won the race for his signature.
The 19-year-old had a €20m release clause in his Porto contract but Mourinho’s side have reportedly agreed to pay slightly more to secure his services.
United announced an agreement with Shakhtar Donetsk for Brazilian midfielder Fred on Tuesday and have now wrapped up their second signing in as many days.
“Diogo is an extremely talented young defender with all the qualities to quickly become a great player for this club,” Mourinho told the club’s official website.
“He has all the attributes that a full-back needs: physicality, tactical intelligence and technical quality, combined with a Porto academy mentality which prepares players for the maturity they need at the professional level.
“In his age group, he is the best full-back in Europe and we all believe he has a bright future ahead of him at Manchester United.”
Mourinho made signing a long-term replacement for Antonio Valencia a top priority this summer and has already found a solution despite the fact Dalot has only made seven senior appearanes.
United have acted quickly to address two problem positions in the squad and are not expected to stop there, with another central midfielder and centre-back on Mourinho's list of transfer targets.
