Manchester City enter the race with Chelsea for Real Madrid fringe player

Manchester City are ready to rival Chelsea for Real Madrid right-back Danilo after missing out on Dani Alves, reports the London Evening Standard.

Pep Guardiola was expected to reunite with Alves at the Etihad this summer but the former Barcelona right-back made the surprise decision to sign for Paris Saint-Germain.

City have since announced the arrival of Tottenham defender Kyle Walker in a £54m world record deal for a defender but Guardiola wants to sign another right-back before the start of this season.

Guardiola has now earmarked Danilo as a potential signing but will face competition from Chelsea after Antonio Conte earmarked the Brazilian as competition for Victor Moses at right wing-back.

The Premier League champions have reportedly agreed personal terms with Danilo but are not willing to match Madrid’s £30.8m valuation of the 26-year-old, which could allow City to hi-jack their deal.

Despite underwhelming for Madrid since joining from Porto in 2015, only Casemiro (5.7) averaged more tackles and interceptions combined than Danilo (5.4) of all Madrid players in La Liga last season.
